Gavin’s journey in film began the summer before his first year of college, when he worked on his first mini-documentary in Peoria, IL. That experience sparked his passion for storytelling and motivated him to pursue a formal education in film.
He went on to earn a degree in Media & Cinema Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While at UIUC, Gavin served as president of the university’s premier film organization, Illini Film and Video. He also worked as a videographer for Fighting Illini Athletics and the College of Fine and Applied Arts.
Beyond his academic experience, Gavin contributed to a range of professional projects. He was a key grip on the feature film BRIM (2025) and a production assistant on the documentary Moving Joy. He has taken on various roles in numerous short films, gaining hands-on experience across multiple areas of film production. Additionally, he has worked as a commercial gaffer for major clients, including U.S. Cellular and the University of Illinois.
Since graduating in Winter 2024, Gavin has been working as a freelance producer with Illinois Public Media in Urbana, IL. He continues to freelance across Central Illinois and the Greater Chicago area, focusing on cinematography and G&E (grip and electric.)
